Banned Books Club
Meets the second Saturday of each month to discuss a book selected from the American Library Association’s most frequently banned and challenged books list. We also take on issues surrounding censorship and access to information! Anyone who has read the book is welcome, although we request that if it has been a while, please refresh your memory before our discussion. You do not have to purchase the book from White Paw, although copies are available. There is also no fee for attending. Refreshments available for purchase.
(the listed month is when we have the discussion, so for example, read April’s selection during the month of March.)
January: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
February: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
March: Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
April: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
June: I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
July: Candide by Voltaire
August: A Separate Peace by John Knowles
September: Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck or The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger (put to a popular vote at August meeting)
October: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
November: A selection of children’s books TBA
December: Animal Farm by George Orwell
White Paw Writer’s Ring
